Fit in 40 juice fast

Smoothie O’ the Day:: Apples and Oranges

Since the discovery that my sugar is a bit wonky, I have, at the advice of my most excellent midwife and second mother, taken to snacking in between {much smaller} meals.  This has proved a perfect opportunity to play with smoothies again. 🙂  You can do the same, or add this to your repertoire for a juice fast.  It is thick, creamy and delicious.  And it utilizes my two fave juicing/smoothie ingredients – avocado and Granny Smith apples.  Avocado is amazing for waking up the brain.  Never fails.

{Fit in 40} | Apples and Oranges Smoothie

Apples and Oranges Smoothie::

  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 2 oranges (Valencias are perfect), peel one
  • 5 carrots
  • 2 avocados

Juice the apples, oranges and carrots.  Scoop the avocados into the blender with the juice and liquify.  Serve with an orange wedge.  Enjoy! Makes about one quart of smoothie goodness.

{Fit in 40} If you like Piña Coladas…

You’re going to love this smoothie:

{Fit in 40™} | Greeña Colada Smoothie

All it needs now is a little paper umbrella.

Greeña Colada:

  • 1 pineapple, peeled
  • 1″ piece ginger
  • 2 avocados, pitted and scooped
  • 12 oz. coconut milk
  • juice of 1/2 lime

Run the ginger and pineapple through the juicer.  Place everything in the blender and liquify.  Why not garnish with a fruit skewer or a cocktail umbrella?  Gorgeous, gorgeous!  Makes two generous servings.

TIP: keep the pulp cleared from the spout since the fibrous fruit can really bog the filter.

And this one:

{Fit in 40™} | Peachy Green Smoothie

Doesn't look like much, but I promise, it's delicious.

Everything is Peachy Green Smoothie

  • 4 peaches, pitted
  • 8 oz spinach
  • 1” piece ginger
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 2-3 avocados pitted and scooped

Run the peaches, spinach , and ginger through the juicer.  Add that combination, the lime juice, and the avocados to the blender and whiz.  Serve with a pineapple skewer… or a little cocktail umbrella!

And THIS one:

{Fit in 40™} | Banana Melba Smoothie

Banana Melba Smoothie

  • 3 granny smith apples
  • 3 peaches, pitted
  • 1” piece ginger
  • 1.5 c. raspberries
  • 2 bananas

Run the apples, peaches, and ginger through the juicer.  Pour the juice, along with the bananas and raspberries into the blender and whiz away.  You may have to do this in two batches.

*All of these make two generous servings, except Banana Melba, which makes 3! *

Juice Fast:: Day 38

Body Says:: I’m happy!

Breakfast:: Pink Smoothie

Lunch:: Marinated Steak, veggies

Dinner:: something green

So there are just two days left to my fast.  I’m pretty pleased overall with my progress.  The steady weight indicates that my inflammation is under good control.  It was never about ‘getting skinny’, although I feel as though it has primed me for getting into a better state of fitness.  It is impossible to exercise when your joints are painfully swollen and stiff.  That is no longer the case.

A certain husband promised ballroom dance lessons after I achieved this level of health…  I’m going to look up Arthur Murray.  I wonder if said husband will really come to a class with me, or if he was just baiting me. Hmmmm.

Juice Fast:: Days 35, 36, 37

Scale Says:: -21lb

Body Says:: I have muscles there?

Breakfast:: Johnny Watermelonseed

Lunch:: Marinated chicken strips, corn, and greens

Dinner:: A nice crisp veggie salad

Wow!  Three days in one!  I’ve been on the go, go, go.  We spent Friday on a field trip to a beautiful botanical garden and museum on Cape Cod.  We walked for four hours… and drove another four.  It was worth it to escape the heat here at home without air conditioning.  It was almost 20 degrees cooler.  My poor legs were giving me what-for… and still are.

Yesterday, we spent six hours with a friend helping him to move into his new house.  He was left with quite a lot of cleaning to do in his lovely, big home.  So we all scrubbed and took out rubbish, and scrubbed some more.  I think we can see light at the end of the tunnel.  We’ll be going back this week to help some more and see if we can’t get him comfortably settled.

So all-in-all I had a very active weekend, I’d say.  Lots and lots of exercise.  I’m really pleased with my stamina, and surprised too.  And I discovered that chores with friends is WAY more enjoyable.  Who knew?

So, who wants to come over and help me clean my house?

Juice Fast:: Day 34

Scale Says:: -22lb.

Body Says:: Nothing to report.  Feeling AOK

Breakfast:: Morning Dew *

Lunch:: Huevos Rancheros

Dinner:: Salad with leftover marinated chicken or steak

Got a late start today, so I wound up combining breakfast and lunch.  I am the fullest I’ve been in weeks.  It is a very unpleasant sensation.  Two significant changes for me since the beginning are that I know really understand eating to satisfaction v. eating to fullness.  I prefer the former.  The other thing that I have noticed is that I am much more sensitive to flavours maning that I am really appreciating and enjoying even the most subtle tastes.  It’s wonderful!

What changes have you noticed?

Morning Dew Juice::

  • 1 honeydew melon
  • 1 pt. strawberries
  • 4 Granny Smith apples
  • water
